Alan Alda wants scientists to cut out the jargon
Wed May 1, 2013
But in the context of explaining the procedure to someone with minimal knowledge of anatomy, your example explanation doesn't sound ridiculous--I've never heard of a "ureteroureterostomy," but from your "ridiculous" explanation, I have a very clear picture in my head of what it means--which is exact …
FDA approves Plan B One-Step for girls 15 and older without prescription
Tue Apr 30, 2013
Congratulations on understanding the duality of life and importance of difficult--and sometimes wrong--choices at such a young age. It's not easy separate your personal beliefs from the right and necessity of others to make their own choices.
Army couple charged with force-feeding foster kids hot sauce, withholding water
Tue Apr 30, 2013
They didn't lose their temper. The calculated nature of withholding water while forcing salts says it's not ignorance either. There is little that I attribute to pure evil, but there is no other way to describe this.
After almost 13 hours, Paul ends filibuster that thrust drones into spotlight
Wed Mar 6, 2013
I don't often agree with the GOP these days, but I confess I appreciate their efforts on this one. Something like this cannot be left open-ended. Once our government sets the precedent of overstepping an assumed boundary, there is no going back.
No salmonella in candy eggs after all, firm says
Sat Mar 2, 2013
That would be the more profitable thing to do. Kudos to them for putting customer safety ahead of their own lost sales and recalling as soon as there was an indication that the product may not be safe to eat.
Once 'inconceivable,' Republican leaders sign pro-gay marriage brief
Tue Feb 26, 2013
They probably got the memo that the party's hardline opposition to gay marriage is losing them a whole bunch of libertarian swing votes. There are a bunch of us who would consider voting Republican again if they quit defining civil rights on the basis of the Bible and pithy soundbites about "family …
Maryland school allows Muslim students to leave class to pray
Thu Jan 31, 2013
My public elementary school let Catholic kids out early on Fridays for...something. Catechism class? Whatever it was, same idea. Not really a big deal, IMO.
Boehner's fiscal path forward: 'God only knows'
Fri Dec 21, 2012
"And as Washington prepares for a holiday break..." This bugs me. All over this country, people will be sneaking off from family celebrations--or missing them entirely--to write proposals, fix websites, run cash registers, drive taxis, answer customer complaints, and a multitude of other job demands …
8-character passwords just got a lot easier to crack
Mon Dec 10, 2012
The latest Wired cover story destroys the idea that longer passwords are the answer. There's so much processing power out there, it's only a matter of time before the inconvenience of cracking 23 characters is not significantly greater than cracking 8. That's all you're really doing with a 'stronger …
So where will all that 'legal' pot come from? Sale of pot stymied
Tue Dec 11, 2012
I don't think many people would support laws allowing people to smoke pot in public places like that.
